The National Shrine of Czestochowa, USA is a huge, vibrant community led by the Pauline brothers. Our Lady is honored each year in August with a walking pilgrimage on a Thursday to Sunday close to the feast of the assumption. Thousands of enthusiastic pilgrims walk nearly 60 miles over the course of 4 days. They camp out in state parks and on farmland.

This Black Madonna is a copy of Our Lady of Regla in Havana, Cuba and in Chipiona, Spain. The original is said to have been carved in the 5th century by St. Augustin following instructions from angels.

It is ironic that the only “real” Black Madonna (not just a copy) in the USA isn’t actually a Black Madonna in the strict sense.
